Neighborhood Series: Kingfield, Minneapolis

Posted by VIBE Realty on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 at 1:36pm.

Kingfield is an established residential neighborhood in the Southwest community of Minneapolis and offers a broad assortment of cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants. Its rough boundaries are 36th Street to the north, 35W to the east, 46th Street to the south, and Lyndale to the west. You can’t deny the strong community spirit here, especially present at the Sunday’s Kingfield Farmers Market. No doubt Kingfield embodies the Minneapolis local life and no matter the season, this area is a place that’s always playing its own tune. We’ve listed some loved spots in the neighborhood below.

Kingfield Farmer’s Market

Open Sunday mornings from May through October, the Kingfield Farmer’s market is the quintessential neighborhood farmer’s market. Right-sized with about thirty vendors selling fruits and vegetables, baked goods, coffee and crafts, it’s a family-friendly way to get out and enjoy a Sunday morning.

Revival

Ah yes, southern comfort food at it’s finest. Kingfield is home to Revival Mpls, the original location of this restaurant well-known for its amazing southern cuisine. On the prowl for chicken and waffles? Look no further. And if you’re into fried green tomatoes and hush puppies, this place provides. We often enjoy the Saint Paul location across from the VIBE office, but for the Minneapolis dwellers, this location is in Kingfield right on Nicollet.

Butter Bakery Cafe

This chill cafe features hearty breakfast, great sandwiches, and delicious baked goods. Side note, sometimes they even have live music! Oh, and their sidewalk seating on Nicollet offers the best people watching in Kingfield. But you didn’t hear it from us. ;)

Sun Street Breads

Another cheery bakery/cafe, Sun Street Breads is located right on the south border of Kingfield and offers new takes on traditional breads and pastries, plus sandwiches and breakfast with comfortable sidewalk seating. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to grab a loaf of freshly baked bread! It won’t disappoint.

Tap Society

Tap Society is your casual neighborhood hangout for burgers and beer. But it’s not just any old place to enjoy a cold one. They have a serve-yourself tap bar where you fill up as much as you want and it charges you by the ounce. You can even grab your own flights! For the beer enthusiast, you finally get to try ALL of them if you so wish. Their trendy interior has casual plaid booths with walls lined in modern subway tile. We highly recommend!

Petite Leon

Tucked away in the former Blackbird Cafe, award-winning chef Jorge Guzman and cocktail aficionado Travis Serbus set up their latest adventure last fall, Petite Leon alongside the popular pop-up Pollo Pollo. With a European menu, everything from the food to the cocktails to the wine list has a story and is made with sustainable, local ingredients, and layers of flavor. Cheers to that.

The Lowbrow

The Lowbrow is a neighborhood favorite with truly something for everyone. It’s family friendly but also has a great happy hour and date night specials. It’s got great burgers on the menu alongside gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Eclectic decor, friendly staff and rotating local craft beers on tap add to the awesomeness. Best yet, The Lowbrow cares about the community and contributes to local causes through their Our Dine Out Give Back program.

Boludo

“A taste of Buenos Aires.” Boludo is a wildly popular Argentinian empanada and pizza restaurant located on Nicollet, and they just opened a second outpost downtown Minneapolis. Rightfully so, it never fails to see a line out the door. Stop here for the ultimate empanada fix, and we can’t forget to mention the gourmet pizzas that are worth writing home about. (No kidding!)

Five Watt Coffee

One of Minneapolis’ most loved coffee shops - Five Watt. With their multiple locations across the cities, us Minnesotans tend to be loyal coffee shop goers, and Five Watt is no exception. Local tip - grab their canned cold brew to-go - it’s the perfect summer caffeine drink to store at home. Oh, and did we mention this place also has their own radio station? Check out Radio Five Watt. It’s confirmed, a coffee shop doesn’t get much cooler than this.

Five Watt Kingfield is one of my favorite spots to grab coffee and get some work done. The garage door wall looks out over Nicollet Avenue, and in warmer weather opens up to sidewalk seating for a cool, indoor-outdoor vibe. I’m a traditionalist when it comes to coffee, but for those who enjoy coffee drinks with more, I understand their bitters made in house and creative mocktails are outstanding.” - VIBE Agent, Cara Quinn

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr park

A neighborhood just isn’t complete without a park. Lining Nicollet, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is a great spot for an afternoon hang if you’re in the neighborhood. Enjoy an indoor recreation center along with an outdoor baseball, basketball, and tennis court. Also, a playground for the kiddos.
