Design Trends for 2024
As we move into 2024, you might be wondering how to update your home in subtle, or not-so-subtle, ways. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered on anticipated design trends for the upcoming year, and we’ve included some dos and don’ts from your favorite real estate agents, who have just a bit of experience buying and selling houses where owners have taken design choices, ahem, perhaps a bit too far.
We can’t talk about design trends without mentioning the Pantone color of the year for 2024, which is peach fuzz, a soft, blushy pink (see below). This color lends itself to accent pieces and fresh florals in your home. As real estate agents, though, we’re begging you not to paint your entire interior pink…If you’re looking for a fresh coat of paint, let us guide you toward trending warm neutrals - earthy beiges, off-whites and taupes.
One of our favorite fashions lends itself to trendy sustainability and that is antique and vintage pieces. From side tables that tell a story to vases, light fixtures and even sofas, vintage is in and it’s the most sustainable way to add flair to your space. Hit up antique stores, but don’t be afraid of your local thrift stores too, where hidden gems can often be found for cheap!
If you’re aiming for a hygge atmosphere, let us introduce you to boucle. Not only is it trendy, but it is so darn COZY! Add a boucle pouf, sofa or accent chair to your bedroom to soften up the space, especially if you subscribe to a more Scandi-inspired minimalism.
Ready to add a bit of whimsy to your home? Ruffles and illustrated tiles to the rescue! A few ruffled throw pillows and some unique tiles are easy and quick changes to make that not only bring the fun, but also the fashion to your home. Plus, since trends come and go, these are pieces that are easy to switch out next year.
Finally, the emergence of self-care as a priority has led many to creating havens in their homes in the form of spathrooms (that’s spa bathrooms ;)). These mini oases are luxurious and practical. Adding fancy towels, a pebble bath mat or a high-end mirror are quick changes. If you’re looking to really up-level your spathroom, though, consider installing heated floors, towel warmers, a steam shower or even a jacuzzi. The only issue is if you never want to leave your house once you have a built-in spa (luckily many of us are still working from home!). Coming from a real estate agent: investing in bathrooms and kitchens tend to have great return on investment so - go ahead and splurge!
