Local Lumber Transformed

After an old Ash tree was cut down from the backyard of their Minneapolis home, Cindy and Rick Siewert had the idea to prolong the life of discarded trees by using them to create furniture, cribbage boards and more. Wood from the Hood was born, and has since saved literal tons of lumber from the landfill.

Cindy and Rick’s background in commercial cabinetry served them well in their vision for Wood from the Hood. Now, Wood from the Hood receives between 400-600 tons of logs each year, all from local Minnesota sources. The logs are milled into dimensional lumber or are “slabbed,” which creates large boards that have a natural edge on both sides.

After months of drying in a warehouse, and another few months in a kiln to further dry them, these slabs are ready to be viewed, chosen and made into conference, dining or coffee tables. Each project comes stamped with the MN zip code where it was sourced, keeping these products ultra-local.

Their newest line, Evergreen Furniture, features pieces crafted from reclaimed Ash trees that the city of Minneapolis cut down due to construction, disease or weather damage. That means you’re getting a beautiful hardwood table and near-Ikea prices and your purchase has a positive effect on the environment.
