Neighborhood Series: Uptown, Minneapolis
Posted by VIBE Realty on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 at 2:32pm.
Uptown is centered at the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and West Lake Street and has long been a hip neighborhood of Minneapolis. A staple area for decades, it was famously written about by Prince. It has traditionally spanned the corners of four neighborhoods, Lowry Hill East, East Bde Maka Ska, South Uptown and East Isles neighborhoods, which are all within the Calhoun Isles community. Throughout the many changes over time, this area is still full of buzzy gastropubs, bistros, stores and boutiques. Known for its classic Uptown Theater on Hennepin and being near walking and cycling paths encircling Lake Bde Maka Ska and Lake of the Isles, this area has plenty to do.
Sookie & Mimi
One of the most recent additions to Uptown, Sookie & Mimi is an airy, woodsy eatery with two bars serving Mexican and Korean sharing plates. James Beard award-winning chef Ann Kim explores new ideas in cuisine spanning Korean, Midwestern, and Latin American ingredients. Their interior is jaw dropping, and their basement bar is worth a visit. If you’re looking for something more casual, order the tacos - they come in a dinosaur. :)

Isles Bun & Coffee
Their tagline is “best buns in town.” Most locals agree. The line is usually well out the door and for a good reason. If you brave the line, you’ll be rewarded with a dang good cinnamon roll and some delicious ‘puppy dog tails’ (the twisted versions).

But, because it’s a true speak-easy you may have some challenges finding it! We’ll give you a hint, the entrance is through an alley near Lyndale and Aldrich.
