Neighborhood Series: Highland Park, Saint Paul

Highland Park is a little slice of small town within the Twin Cities and typically has an abundance of quaint homes available on the market. From bungalows and cape cods to tudor-style houses, you're sure to find a single family home that suits your taste. This southwest corner of Saint Paul offers something for everyone, even during quarantine. Recreation is the name of the game with river trails and local parks that are perfect for spending time outdoors while isolating (because we all could use some fresh air and a nature fix as the weather starts to get nicer). 

There's even more to look forward to when the days of COVID-19 are behind us, from getting some swings in at the Highland Golf Course to hitting up a movie at the Historic Highland Theater. And while we're certainly looking forward to the days when we can dine-in at this neighborhood's note-worthy restaurants or linger over lattes at a Highland Park coffee shop, there are no shortages of ways we can still enjoy what these businesses have to offer. From takeout and curbside pickup to delivery options, we've listed some notable favorites and mentioned ways that you can help support local in Highland Park during these times.

Hidden Falls 

Crank don't go chasing waterfalls by TLC (if you have it in you) and head to Hidden Falls for a little fix of nature and a glance at a spring-fed waterfall. Tucked alongside the Mississippi River Boulevard’s bluffs, you can wander and explore the outdoors while still managing to keep a six foot distance from passersby. With plenty of trails, fishing, a pavilion, and a sandy beach area (we look forward to this being open again), this spot in Highland Park is the ideal summer hang.

Highland Theatre

For a flash back in time, add it to your list to hit up the historic Highland Theatre once it's safe again to do so. This art deco spot has been around since 1927 but shows current films, so you can get the best of both worlds. It's reminiscent of the times where Saint Paul was once packed with modest neighborhood theaters. The only two that are still actively around is the Highland and the Grandview in the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood. 

Support and enjoy during COVID-19: Every Saturday from 12pm - 7pm you can level up your at-home movie night. From popcorn to milkshakes, they've got everything you need to bring Mann Theatres home to you. A portion of proceeds (and any/all donations) will benefit local COVID-19 response.

Highland Grill

Highland Grill has an upbeat atmosphere and some of the best eggs bennies around (which they serve all day, mind you.) Tufted leather and subway tile - great design never hurts in a place that serves excellent food.

Quixotic Coffee

This quaint coffee shop is definitely instagram worthy and their coffee is fit for your Monday morning pick-me-up. Handcrafted beverages, delicious pastries, and free wifi makes for an afternoon well-spent. Local tip - they also have a meeting room you can book once they are open again if you're wanting to change the pace for a client meeting.

Cold Front

Old school digs with counter stools and creamy ice cream? Yes please. Tons of flavors to choose from so best of luck to the indecisive. They also serve Dogwood Coffee - all is good here.
