Neighborhood Series: Como, Minneapolis

Last month we covered Como Park in Saint Paul, and now we’re hitting the nearby neighborhood of Como in Minneapolis. Its boundaries are East Hennepin Avenue to the north, 33rd Avenue Southeast (the eastern city limit) to the east, the Southeast Industrial Area to the south, and Interstate 35W to the west. This area is also home to numerous spots and creative studios. Check out some highlights of Como below.

Gem Salon 

A cherished neighbor of our VIBE office, Gem Salon recently relocated to Como in Minneapolis! Black Coffee Waffle Bar

Brunch as it's meant to be. This coffee shop and waffle bar is a breakfast staple (with other locations in Saint Paul, and now, Fargo!) They serve the most delicious and dressed up waffles with fresh ingredients and toppings made in-house. The coffee beans are provided by local quality roasters Vitality Roasting (love a double local spot). It’s known as a hot spot for locals and students near the university.

Como Tap

Just what it sounds like, beer on tap! Como Tap is a classic sporty hang for all the beer lovers out there in the neighborhood. They are known for their ‘famous burgers’ and karaoke (sound like a night out?) Select from a variety of local crafts and check out their speciality tap list and meal specials if you really want to do it right.

Koehler & Dramm

A serious wonder for floral and botany lovers and enthusiasts. Slight disclaimer, you need a wholesale license to enter, but if you have a membership here - you’ll never need to buy a stem elsewhere. Koehler & Dramm is a wholesale distributor of quality fresh cut flowers, floral supplies, and plants for over 60 years here in Minneapolis! Flowers available at wholesale cost completely fill up this giant warehouse! It’s hard to leave without a cart full, that’s for sure.

The FISK Building

The FISK Building is a renovated 100 year old, two-story office with floor to ceiling windows and is home to many creatives and modern businesses based out of Como. From Gem Salon, to Soona (photography studio), to The White Room (bridal boutique) to Maven Events (event planner and boutique by appointment), and previous studio of Wit & Delight (MN lifestyle blogger & influencer), this building can’t be overlooked as a prominent part of this neighborhood!
